Softball Recap: Jemison's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Jemison had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Verbena Red Devils by a score of 6-3 on Thursday. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Red Devils, too.

Hannah Popwell made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigayl Rivera, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Trinity Bean was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Jemison's record is now 4-7. As for Verbena, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Jemison will be taking part in a tournament against Elmore County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Elmore County has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.5 runs per game on average), something Jemison will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Verbena, they are taking a road trip to face off against Central of Coosa County at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
