Preview: La Porte Bulldogs vs. Crosby Cougars
The La Porte Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Crosby Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
La Porte stacked a fourth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 34-0 win over Sterling. Given La Porte's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Sterling is ranked 664th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
La Porte's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyresse Barnes led the charge by rushing for 118 yards on only seven carries. Barnes hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Keenan Lawrence was another key contributor, rushing for 130 yards on only 14 carries.
Meanwhile, Crosby had to endure an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 15-7 victory over Sterling two weeks ago.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Crosby to victory, but perhaps none more so than Levi Fontenot, who rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Brandt Wright, who picked up 106 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The victory makes it two in a row for La Porte and bumps their season record up to 7-2. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 24 points. As for Crosby, their win bumped their record up to 1-7.
La Porte came up short against Crosby in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 49-42. Thankfully for La Porte, Cyrin Myles (who threw for 325 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.1 yards per attempt, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
