League recap: Mayfair climbs in standings with win

Mayfair was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in Suburban. Earlier in the week, the Monsoons defeated Artesia 28-27.

Norwalk moved up to 127 from 195 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 29-23 win over the Lancers helped the Lancers improve their standing.

Francisco Galan and Cristian Rodriguez gave the Pioneers a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Galan threw for 157 yards and three touchdowns, while Rodriguez ran for 188 yards. Teammate Galan added to the ground attack by rushing for 101 yards.

Rashaad Penny made the biggest impact on defense this week as Norwalk lost to La Mirada. The 6-foot-0 junior forced one fumble.

Tyler Luatua was the best wideout in the league this week as the Matadores defeated Jesse Ceniceros's team. Luatua racked up six receptions for 129 yards. DALLIS SHIPP helped La Mirada's passing attack out by catching one ball for 33 yards.

La Mirada's GERRY MYRES and SHIPP have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Suburban in both passing and receiving yards. MYRES has thrown for 905 yards this season, while SHIPP, a 6-foot-5 receiver, has 25 catches for 436 yards. Ryan Hunley from Bellflower leads the league in rushing with 809 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Buccaneers take on Mike Moschetti's team. Bellflower is currently in third, while the Matadores are in second.

Mayfair made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,200 from 6,296. The advance stemmed from a 28-27 victory over Artesia last week.
