Softball Recap: Corona del Sol Aztecs vs. Desert Vista Thunder
Corona del Sol had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 13-13 to make it six. They fell just short of the Desert Vista Thunder by a score of 5-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunder this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-2 last Thursday.
Corona del Sol saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caitlyn Ackerley, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Kaylie Pequeno was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
As for Desert Vista, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games.
On Desert Vista's side, Thailee Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. Looking ahead, Corona del Sol will face off against Casteel at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Desert Vista, they will challenge O'Connor at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Thunder's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
