Basketball Game Preview: Broadneck Bruins vs. Glen Burnie Gophers

Broadneck and Glen Burnie are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Broadneck Bruins will square off against the Glen Burnie Gophers on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Broadneck saw some tournament action on Friday. They wrapped up 2024 with a 68-50 victory over Oakland Mills. Given the Bruins' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Scorpions are ranked 228th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Glen Burnie had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They skirted past the Mariners 59-56.

The win made it two in a row for Broadneck and bumps their season record up to 5-1. As for Glen Burnie, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Broadneck didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Glen Burnie when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 62-57 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Broadneck since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
