Baseball Recap: Edwards County Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Edwards County had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Casey-Westfield Warriors on Monday. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered a 4-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Jackson Hensley and Jex Schnepper made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Hensley didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Schnepper tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Hensley gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Hensley scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Schnepper scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jax Duncan, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

Looking ahead, Edwards County will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Casey-Westfield, they are taking a road trip to challenge North Clay/Clay City at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
