League recap: Red Springs stuns East Columbus in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Red Springs, who took down 150th ranked East Columbus, 19-16. Jedarian Lesane ran for 236 yards in the win.

The Red Devils moved up to 157 from 189 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A/1A Three Rivers. A 19-16 win over the Gators helped Red Springs improve its standing.

George Coltharp's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Blake Greene threw for 216 and one touchdown and Zachary Leach had 95 yards receiving. Zachary Jones helped Red Springs' passing attack out by catching four balls for 85 yards.

David Inman made the biggest impact on defense this week as St. Pauls beat South Robeson. The 5-foot-7 defensive back pulled down one interception.

The Red Devils' Greene and Leach have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Greene has thrown for 2066 yards this season, while Leach, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 41 catches for 672 yards. The Bulldogs' Shawn Williams leads the league in rushing yards with 1448.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when St. Pauls takes on East Columbus. Trey Sasser's team's offense has scored 396 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Toby Kasell's team has allowed only 119 on the year.

A big matchup in 2A/1A Three Rivers this week will be when the Gators take on the Bulldogs. East Columbus is in fifth place, while St. Pauls is in first place.

West Columbus was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Vikings triumphed over Fairmont 32-30.
