Basketball Recap: Seguin Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Seguin ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They managed a 39-35 win over the Edison Golden Bears. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Matadors were the better team in the second half.

Seguin got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Rebeka Wilke out in front who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 boards. That's the most boards Wilke has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Imani Winn, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds.

Seguin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edison only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.

Edison's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Allison Ramirez, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malajah Gray, who had eight points in addition to nine boards and three steals.

Seguin has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-14 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing zero assists in those games compared to only zero in the others. As for Edison, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Highlands the next time they take the court. Seguin will head out to face Highlands at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, while Edison will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on January 7th.
