Softball Game Preview: Sumner Spartans vs. South Kitsap Wolves

The Sumner Spartans will head out to challenge the South Kitsap Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Sumner was handed a six-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Puyallup. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Sumner let Naya Alastra and Anna Thweatt run wild. Alastra went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double, while Thweatt went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Riley Meyers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, South Kitsap can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They skirted past Graham-Kapowsin 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since April 24, 2024.

Reagan Dale was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

South Kitsap's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Sumner, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.

Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sumner hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like South Kitsap struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Sumner was able to grind out a solid win over South Kitsap in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 12-7. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
