Renton is 0-8 against Sammamish since March of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Red Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the RedHawks at 3:30 p.m.
Renton is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They fell 4-1 to Tyee.
Renton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Thor, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sammamish waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Wolverines. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the RedHawks have posted since April 7th.
Theo Molnar looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kolin Jaster, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Perez, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Sammamish's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Renton, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-15.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Renton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sammamish struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Renton suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Sammamish in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Red Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
