Basketball Recap: Sacramento Takes a Loss

Sacramento was the 66-61 winner over Vanden when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Sacramento Dragons were just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 59-58 to the Vanden Vikings. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Sacramento lost, don't look at Shawn Underwood. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 13 en route to 21 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Devion Watts, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points.

Vanden's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chriseanie Nealy, who went 9 for 18 en route to 22 points and five boards. Those 22 points gave Nealy a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of James Carraway, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 11 points and three steals.

Sacramento's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-9. As for Vanden, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Sacramento has already played their next contest, a 73-57 win against Cornerstone Christian on the 18th. As for Vanden, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-44 victory against River City on the 17th.
