Christopher is 1-9 against Gilroy since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. Christopher has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
It was a proper cat-fight when Christopher faced off against Prospect on Wednesday. The Cougars took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers.
Chevelle Quistian made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brianna Diaz Cruz, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.
Meanwhile, Gilroy waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Chieftains a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Ariela Yslava, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Palma off the board. Yslava has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dani Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
Gilroy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palma only managed three hits.
Gilroy's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Christopher, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Christopher has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Gilroy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Christopher suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Gilroy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
