Girard is 0-10 against Fairview since May of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Girard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Greenville hit Girard with a six-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Yellowjackets came up short against the Trojans, falling 14-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Yellowjackets have suffered since April 15th.
Meanwhile, Fairview entered their tilt with Conneaut Area on Monday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Eagles. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Vinny Campoli was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
In other batting news, Fairview let Luke Rzodkiewicz and Andrew Stevens run wild. Rzodkiewicz went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Stevens got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Another player making a difference was Tyler Benford, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Fairview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Fairview's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Girard, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
Girard's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Yellowjackets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Fairview, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Girard continue to outrun the ball?
Girard couldn't quite get it done against Fairview when the teams last played two weeks ago as they fell 4-0. Will the Yellowjackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
