Baseball Game Preview: Bastrop Bears vs. Cedar Creek Eagles

For the second straight game, Bastrop will face off against Cedar Creek. The Bears will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m.

Bastrop came out on top against Cedar Creek on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Bears put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 9-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Mason Smith made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bastrop is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-8-2 otherwise. Smith was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other pitching news, Cooper Voigt tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kody Wright, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Lathan Bennett was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Cedar Creek's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-10. As for Bastrop, the win was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 6-9-2.
