Basketball Recap: Casa Grande Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Dovantae Powell and Dewayne Haygood

If Casa Grande was riding high fresh off their 77-46 takedown of Sunnyside last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Casa Grande Cougars took a 57-40 bruising from the Mountain View Mountain Lions on Friday. The match marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Dewayne Haygood and Dovantae Powell certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Haygood dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards, while Powell posted 15 points. The dominant performance gave Haygood a new career-high in points.

Even though they lost, Casa Grande smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive games.
