Baseball Recap: Lake Forest Takes a Loss

Lake Forest was the 5-4 winner over Warren Township when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Scouts fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 5-4 on Thursday. The Scouts have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Nate Brezak was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Stephen Cole was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Lake Forest's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Charlie Graham, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Lake Forest's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Warren Township, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Looking ahead, Lake Forest will head out on the road to square off against Cary-Grove at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Warren Township, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Niles West at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
