Softball Game Preview: Sherando Warriors vs. Skyline Hawks

Sherando and Skyline are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Warriors will host the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Skyline will be up against a hot Sherando team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Warriors put the hurt on Warren County with a sharp 16-1 win on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Warriors considering their one-run performance the game before.

Lilian Wray made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Madalyn Cox was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Makayla Williams was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Sherando hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Skyline, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Handley an 18-0 shutout on Thursday. The contest marked the Hawks' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Sherando's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Skyline, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Sherando skirted past Skyline 1-0 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
