Basketball Recap: Westside Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Westside had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Jackson Red Devils as they made off with a 50-30 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Seminoles have posted against the Red Devils since January 29, 2019.

Westside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Domonique Billue led the charge by putting up 17 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. The game was Billue's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Destiny Spencer, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Westside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 15 consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Jackson still got an impressive performance from Ariyah Burke, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. That's the most points Burke has posted since back in November of 2023.

Westside is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points per game. As for Jackson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13.

Westside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-22 win against Southwest on the 18th. Jackson has also already played their next contest, a 44-39 victory against Mary Persons on the 18th.
