The Riverbank Bruins will head out on the road to square off against the Bret Harte Bullfrogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverbank has now lost 18 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since February 22.
Riverbank fell victim to Linden and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions.
Maya Guzman put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Guzman was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Guzman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Briseida Felix, who went 1-for-4 with one double. That double was Felix's first of the season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Bret Harte and Summerville, and Bret Harte kept the tradition alive. The Bullfrogs blew past the Bears 12-5 on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bullfrogs as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Madison Kane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Keelin McDonald was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Delaney Dickson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Bret Harte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Riverbank's loss dropped their record down to 2-23-1. As for Bret Harte, their record now sits at 7-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Riverbank has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bret Harte struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Riverbank couldn't quite get it done against Bret Harte when the teams last played back in April as they fell 9-4. Can the Bruins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
