Preview: Collins Tigers vs. Heidelberg Oilers
The Collins Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Heidelberg Oilers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Collins strolled past Richton with points to spare, taking the game 28-12.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Collins to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maurio Luvine, who picked up 70 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Donte Booth and his 87 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Collins' win.
Meanwhile, Heidelberg didn't have too much trouble with Clarkdale at home on Friday as they won 26-7.
Chase Craft was a one-man wrecking crew for Heidelberg as he rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 140 yards and a touchdown. Craft was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Destin McCray, who gained 104 total yards and a touchdown.
Collins' victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Heidelberg, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Collins came out on top in a nail-biter against Heidelberg in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, sneaking past 30-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for Collins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
