Baseball Game Preview: St. Thomas Aquinas Trojans vs. East Brunswick Bears

The St. Thomas Aquinas Trojans will head out to square off against the East Brunswick Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Thomas Aquinas' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so East Brunswick's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Wednesday, St. Thomas Aquinas came up short against St. Joseph and fell 6-1. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times East Brunswick and South Plainfield have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Bears had just enough and edged out the Tigers 6-5.

Hayden Dziubeck tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, Joe Spinello was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Zeichner, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

East Brunswick was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The last time their batting average was this high was was before the start of last season.

East Brunswick's record is now 10-5. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.

St. Thomas Aquinas suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to East Brunswick in their previous meeting back in April of 2017. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
