Baseball Recap: Maricopa Gets the Win

Maricopa's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Apache Junction Prospectors. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Rams also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2017.

Sebastian Castro-Lopez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Castro-Lopez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Will Hawkins, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Connor Jackson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Maricopa's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Apache Junction, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Maricopa will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Mesa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Maricopa is facing Mesa at the right time seeing as Mesa is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Apache Junction, they will take on Prescott in a tournament on Saturday.
