Baseball Recap: Pandora-Gilboa Comes Up Short

Pandora-Gilboa had lost 14 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-15 to make it 15. They came up short against the Leipsic Vikings, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on April 14th.

Nolan Leatherman was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

As for Leipsic, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-8 record. Considering they have won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Leipsic's side, Colin Niese made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Niese a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Leipsic is undefeated when Niese posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Tommy Offenbacher was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Leipsic's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Aaron Hazelton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Pandora-Gilboa will be playing in front of their home fans against Vanlue at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rockets are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Leipsic, they will head out on the road to challenge Ottawa-Glandorf at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
