Preview: Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers vs. Elkins Tigers
The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers will head out on the road to square off against the Elkins Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, Buckhannon-Upshur beat Lewis County 55-46. The win made it back-to-back wins for Buckhannon-Upshur.
Buckhannon-Upshur relied on the efforts of Malaki Williams, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, and Carter Zuliani, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Williams scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerin Westfall, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Elkins had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 59-50 victory over Hampshire on Monday. The win was just what Elkins needed coming off of a 66-33 defeat in their prior match.
Buckhannon-Upshur pushed their record up to 12-5 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Elkins, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10.
Buckhannon-Upshur came up short against Elkins when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 61-57. Can Buckhannon-Upshur avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
