Baseball Recap: Chavez Sets Scoring Season-High Against Arleta

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chavez). They had just enough and edged out the Arleta Mustangs 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won six in a row.

Ivan Martinez and Brandon Zazueta made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Martinez pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Meanwhile, Zazueta tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Martinez has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Martinez scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Zazueta scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Zazueta a new career-high in doubles (two).

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Benji Godoy, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Daniel Zelaya also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Chavez's record now sits at 5-3. As for Arleta, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Chavez beat Arleta by a score of 11-5 on Friday.
