Basketball Recap: Dwyer Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Dwyer duked it out withMartin County on Wednesday. The Dwyer Panthers took a 72-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Martin County Tigers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (62), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Dwyer lost, don't look at JERMUNI SHULER. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, SHULER is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of TAMARI REED, who posted 14 points.

Even though they lost, Dwyer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Martin County only pulled down seven offensive boards.

It was another big night for Ari Smith, who went 8 for 12 on his way to 26 points and six boards for Martin County. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brandon Brazell, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Dwyer has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. As for Martin County, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.

Dwyer didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-48 win against Suncoast on the 10th. As for Martin County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-61 victory against Treasure Coast on the 14th.
