Preview: Winlock Cardinals vs. Wahkiakum Mules
Winlock is 0-10 against Wahkiakum since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Winlock Cardinals will be staying on the road to face off against the Wahkiakum Mules at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Winlock suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Toutle Lake on the road and fell 69-18. While losing is never fun, Winlock can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Toutle Lake is ranked 44th).
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Wahkiakum, who are still winless after their seventh match. They were dealt a 55-14 loss at the hands of Kalama on Tuesday.
Winlock's loss was their 11th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.5 points per game. As for Wahkiakum, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Winlock came up short against Wahkiakum in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 51-40. Can Winlock avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
