Softball Recap: New Miami Vikings vs. Cincinnati Country Day Nighthawks
New Miami had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-7 to make it seven. They came up short against the Cincinnati Country Day Nighthawks, falling 15-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Nighthawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-2 back in April.
As for Cincinnati Country Day, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games.
For Cincinnati Country Day's part, Riley Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Williams was also big at the plate, going 4-for-6 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylee Hirschauer, who went 5-for-6 with one home run, five runs, and three RBI. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jossi Johns, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
