Basketball Recap: Stuart Comes Up Short

Stuart entered their game against Elgin/Pope John on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Broncos took a 38-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolfpack. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Wolfpack are ranked 22nd).

When it comes to explaining why Stuart lost, don't look at Drew Schmaderer. Despite the final result, he posted 15 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The contest was Schmaderer's third in a row with at least 15 points.

Elgin/Pope John's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karson Kallhoff, who put up 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Henn, who went 6-for-8 on his way to 12 points and five boards.

Stuart's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-4. As for Elgin/Pope John, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.

Stuart has already played their next matchup, a 79-9 win against Santee on the 20th. As for Elgin/Pope John, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-46 victory against O'Neill on the 20th.
