Baseball Game Preview: Bishop Dunne Falcons vs. Southwest Christian School Eagles

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Bishop Dunne Falcons duke it out with Southwest Christian School Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Bishop Dunne easily dispatched Great Hearts Irving last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Bishop Dunne fell just short of Grace Community by a score of 9-7 on Monday.

Kaden Briggs put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, Kameron Briggs made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Derek Almaraz was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Southwest Christian School waltzed into their match on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came out on top against the Cardinals by a score of 6-3. Six seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Southwest Christian School pushed their record up to 11-6 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Dunne, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10-1 record this season.
