Baseball Recap: Jonesport-Beals Takes a Loss

Jonesport-Beals extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-2 in the process. They lost 14-1 to the Machias Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Royals of the 15-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Machias, the victory got them back to even at 1-1. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

For Machias' part, Brady Fergerson and Nick Hennessey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Fergerson tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hennessey pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Fergerson went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hennessey got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Machias let Blake Bridges and Denver Fergerson run wild. Bridges went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Fergerson got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Tyler Alley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Coincidentally, Jonesport-Beals and Machias will both be playing Woodland the next time they take the field. The Royals will host the Dragons at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Bulldogs will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
