Baseball Recap: Lancaster Comes Up Short

Lancaster was the 6-3 winner over Skyline when they last played one another last Wednesday, but their luck changed this time around. Lancaster fell just short of Skyline by a score of 6-5 on Friday.

Derrick Chatman II put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-6. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 12 times he's played.

In other batting news, Joseph Foster made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-6. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Braedan Holmes, who scored a run and stole three bases.

Lancaster's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Skyline, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 7-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lancaster will host Duncanville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Skyline, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mesquite at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mesquite's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Skyline's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
