Baseball Game Preview: Porter Ridge Pirates vs. Sun Valley Spartans

The Porter Ridge Pirates will take on the Sun Valley Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Porter Ridge is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.

Porter Ridge is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with an 18-13 victory over North Myrtle Beach on Friday. Porter Ridge's win was all the more impressive since the Chiefs were averaging only 2.7 runs allowed on the season.

Meanwhile, Sun Valley made easy work of Ballantyne Ridge on Tuesday and carried off a 13-6 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Robert Jackson made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Sun Valley is undefeated when Jackson posts two or more runs, but 9-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, Ayden Matzke was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyle Kroehler, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Sun Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Sun Valley now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Porter Ridge, the win got them back to even at 11-11.

Porter Ridge skirted past Sun Valley 9-7 in their previous matchup last Thursday. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
