Basketball Preview: Wright City Wildcats vs. North Callaway Thunderbirds
Wright City is 2-8 against the Thunderbirds since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The pair will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wright City is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
Last Friday, Wright City earned a 60-51 win over the Owls.
North Callaway lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Saturday was a bit more commanding. They were outmatched by Higbee on the road and fell 77-46. While losing is never fun, North Callaway can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 488th, while the Tigers are ranked 183rd).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Sam Pezold, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Isiah Craighead, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Wright City's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-8. As for North Callaway, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 15 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.
Wright City might still be hurting after the 63-37 loss they got from the Thunderbirds when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Wright City, Matthew Weber (who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
