Football Game Preview: Santa Gertrudis Academy Lions vs. Lyford Bulldogs

Santa Gertrudis Academy hasn't had much luck against Lyford recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Lions are taking a road trip to face off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Santa Gertrudis Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Lyford will be coming in after a loss.

Santa Gertrudis Academy took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They strolled past Falfurrias with points to spare, taking the game 29-14.

The critical scores for Santa Gertrudis Academy came from Jacob Moya, Percy Davis Lll, and Karlos Diaz.

Meanwhile, Lyford had to suffer through a 59-13 loss at the hands of Rio Hondo.

Lyford's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Santa Gertrudis Academy, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-5.

Santa Gertrudis Academy took a serious blow against Lyford in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 27-0. Thankfully for the Lions, Adrian Chavez (who rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
