Volleyball Recap: Maple Mountain Takes Down Ranked Spanish Fork

Maple Mountain faced Spanish Fork in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Dons, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since March 17th.

Maple Mountain got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the fourth set. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-16, 21-25, 28-30, 15-9.

Maple Mountain found their leader in sophomore McKay Beattie, who had 25 digs and three aces. Those 25 digs set a new season-high mark for Beattie. Alberto Ripol Roma also deserves some recognition as he had his first dig of the season.

Maple Mountain was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive contests.

Maple Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Spanish Fork, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three matches and leaves them with a 9-4 record.

Looking ahead, Maple Mountain will face off against Springville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The match will give the Eagles their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Spanish Fork, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against Desert Hills on the 27th.
