Baseball Recap: Richard Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lutheran North, Richard was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Riverview Pirates 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Pioneers: when they faced off against the Pirates last Thursday, they had to take a 16-2 defeat.

Drew Everingham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Richard is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-13-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Richard's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Magiera, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits Magiera has posted since back in April.

Richard's win bumped their record up to 3-14-1. As for Riverview, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-24.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richard will square off against Cranbrook Kingswood at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Riverview, they will challenge Grosse Ile at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
