Volleyball Recap: Matthew Engebretsen and Ramses Medina Gonzales Secure Win for Cottonwood

There's no place like home for Cottonwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They put the hurt on the Hillcrest Huskies with a sharp 3-0 win on Thursday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Colts also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

While Cottonwood might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Hillcrest scored at least 21 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-21, 25-21.

Leading Cottonwood to victory were Ramses Medina Gonzales and Matthew Engebretsen. Medina Gonzales had four aces and one block, while Engebretsen had 18 kills and five digs. That's the most digs Engebretsen has posted since back in April of 2024.

They weren't the only good server: Cottonwood was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 11 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Cottonwood's victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-5. As for Hillcrest, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Cottonwood wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-2 win against Stansbury on the 18th. As for Hillcrest, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Bear River on the 14th.
