Baseball Recap: Florence Beats Raleigh for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Florence entered their tilt with Raleigh on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They didn't even let the Lions on the board, marking their second-straight 16-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.

Florence let Bryan Davis and Morgan Weathersby run wild. Davis scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Weathersby scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Weathersby has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaboris Buckley, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Florence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.

Florence pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Raleigh, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Florence will challenge Sumrall at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Raleigh, they will face off against St. Andrew's Episcopal at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Saints will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
