Baseball Game Preview: Beechwood Tigers vs. Covington Catholic Colonels

The Beechwood Tigers will take on the Covington Catholic Colonels at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Beechwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

Beechwood came out on top against Prestonsburg on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Tigers walked away with an 8-5 win over the Blackcats.

Roland King looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Fryman, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Arrasmith, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Covington Catholic suffered their closest loss since April 11th on Monday. They fell just short of Ryle by a score of 12-10. The Colonels have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Beechwood pushed their record up to 20-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Covington Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-12.

Beechwood came out on top in a nail-biter against Covington Catholic in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
