Basketball Recap: South Fork Sets Scoring Season-High Against Westwood

South Fork was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 18th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-49 heartbreaker at the hands of the Westwood Panthers. One positive for the Bulldogs, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the loss, South Fork saw an underclassman step up: freshman Vivianna Morales dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 16 rebounds, and ten blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Morales has scored all season. Kylee Brooks was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

Even though they lost, South Fork was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Westwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jihla Greer, who posted 20 points and five boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Greer has scored at least a third of Westwood's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Te'Anaina Rivers, who scored 12 points and three steals.

South Fork's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Westwood, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-7 record.

South Fork and Centennial will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played. As for Westwood, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Westwood Panthers face off against the Port St. Lucie Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Port St. Lucie will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Westwood surely won't give up without a fight.
