Basketball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Weslaco's Tenth in Last 11 Outings

Weslaco won the last time they faced La Joya and things went their way on Monday too. The Weslaco Panthers secured a 31-25 W over the La Joya Coyotes. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Coyotes are ranked 811th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, La Joya saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Calixtra Gandaria posted seven points and eight boards.

Weslaco has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for La Joya, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-18.

Weslaco has already played their next contest (against Edinburg North), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. La Joya wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 40-31 victory against Edinburg on the 24th.
