Softball Game Preview: Carey Blue Devils vs. Perkins Pirates

The Carey Blue Devils will venture away from home to face off against the Perkins Pirates at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Perkins took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Carey, who comes in off a win.

Carey will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Arlington on Friday. The Blue Devils blew past the Red Devils 15-2. The Blue Devils have beaten the Red Devils the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Red Devils has come to flipping the script.

Danika Hanna was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Hanna was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Autumn Bouillon, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gracie Luhring, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Carey lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Eastwood hit Perkins with a five-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pirates came up short against the Eagles, falling 10-0. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by exactly ten runs.

Kaleyon Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on six hits.

Carey's record is now 8-9. As for Perkins, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
