Basketball Recap: Cleveland Starts off Right with Win over Topsail

Cleveland had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 56-43 victory over the Topsail Pirates on Thursday.

Leading Cleveland to victory were Angelia Dunn and DD Tsolenyanu. Dunn dropped a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Tsolenyanu dropped a double-double with 13 points and 20 boards. Dunn's big performance that evening made it 12 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Gloriann Pratt, who posted seven points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Despite the defeat, Topsail had strong showings from Reed Garofano, who went 6-for-12 on her way to 14 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, and Jaelyn Dabideen, who scored 12 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Nelson, who had four points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

Topsail's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Cleveland will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against West Johnston at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Topsail has already played their next game (against New Bern), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
