Baseball Preview: Lowell Red Devils vs. Munster Mustangs
Lowell is 2-8 against Munster since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Lowell Red Devils will be playing at home against the Munster Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Lowell will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak dating back to last season alive.
While Lowell has not struggled against Portage recently, they managed to flip the script on Saturday. Lowell skirted past Portage 4-2.
Zak Scharnke was excellent, going 2-for-3 with a triple and a run. Cam Mikulich was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Munster got themselves on the board against Highland on Wednesday, but Highland never followed suit. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 5-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Munster.
The result came thanks to Fuller Tyler's shutout, as he gave up just five hits. It was the first time this season that he pitched five or more innings.
On the hitting side, Southwell Nathan was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Campagna Joey, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and an RBI.
Lowell's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Munster, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
