Baseball Recap: Highland Tech Victorious

Highland Tech took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against West Lincoln, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rams skirted past the Rebels 4-3.

Coleman Schafer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, Highland Tech's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Lunsford, who went 1-for-4 with one run. That run marked the first that Lunsford has scored this season.

Highland Tech's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for West Lincoln, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

West Lincoln will face off against Newton-Conover at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Rebels' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Highland Tech will be paying especially close attention to West Lincoln's matchup: after West Lincoln faces off against Newton-Conover, they'll take on Highland Tech again at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
