Softball Recap: Monroe Takes a Loss

Monroe had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 13-6 to make it four. They fell just short of the Jefferson Eagles by a score of 4-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 on Monday.

Monroe saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Fiona Junk, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Junk has hit this season.

As for Jefferson, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

On Jefferson's side, Natalie Weber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits.

At the plate, Nevaeh Milbrath and Audrina Schroeder did most of the damage at the plate: Milbrath went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Schroeder went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Coming up, Monroe will venture away from home to face off against Whitewater at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cheesemakers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Whippets have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Jefferson, they will be playing at home against Marshall at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
