Softball Recap: Wake Forest Comes Up Short

Wake Forest dropped to 12-5 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Heritage Huskies, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-5 on Tuesday.

As for Heritage, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 16-2. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Heritage's part, Scarlett Ellis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Ellis was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Janiah Vargas was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Avery Keith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Coming up, Wake Forest will venture away from home to challenge Wakefield at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Heritage, they will welcome Vance County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vipers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.54 runs per game on average), something the Huskies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
