Softball Recap: Gervais Has No Trouble Against Central Linn

Gervais made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Central Linn, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Cobras on Wednesday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Addy McCargar made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucy Corrales, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ekatirina Secrist, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.

Gervais always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .578 or higher in three consecutive games.

Gervais' victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Central Linn, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Gervais beat the Cobras by a score of 16-5 on Friday.
