Softball Game Preview: Sandy Pioneers vs. Gresham Gophers

The Sandy Pioneers will head out on the road to take on the Gresham Gophers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sandy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Gresham's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Monday just wasn't the day for Sandy's offense. They lost 11-0 to Barlow on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Pioneers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, while it was Gresham who put the first runs on the board on Monday, it was Nelson who put up more. The Gophers fell just short of Nelson by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Gophers have suffered since April 3rd.

La Terra Foster-Frison stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Daya Nelson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Sandy moved to 12-5 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Gresham, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-6.

Sandy was able to grind out a solid win over Gresham when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 8-3. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Gophers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
